In 2017, my town Paphos was awarded to held the European Capital of Culture 2017. I had taken part in all the efforts for the nomination process, and one of my suggestions was to honor a Turkish/Cypriot artist that had saved my father’s (Andy Adamos 1936-1990) work from the closed city of Ammochostos in 1976.
Risky Travels was the title given to the exhibition.
As the curator of the whole project, I managed to publish in detail the whole story of that event into a book/catalog.
Cyprus has been divided by the Turkish army since 1974. This is a story of a young artist that saved and protected the works of another fellow artist under extreme conditions.
PAFOS2017, European Capital of Culture, was the perfect event to expose this story and the artworks of both artists together in a combined exhibition.
