The first online exhibition of my work is here, where you can see a collection of artworks that I created during the Covid-19 quarantine. A series of photographs that I took in 2010 of Greasy Pole, the traditional and exciting, yet dangerous game that we play at the Kataklysmos Festival in Cyprus, was one of the projects I got to finish in 2010.
"Kataklysmos," meaning deluge or cataclysm in Greek, is a religious festival that takes place 50 days after the Greek Orthodox Easter. Traditionally, the festival is a celebration of Noah and the flood and has its roots in both the Bible and Greek mythology. I have captured the intensity and adrenaline of this game that is played during the festival in my photographs. I hope that this exhibition will give you an insight into the unique cultural traditions of Cyprus, specifically the Greasy Pole game, and the inspiration behind my artworks.
