Upon entering the basement where the archive was stored, abandoned for decades, I was struck by its unique condition. The humidity had seeped in from a water canal built to supply the town with fresh water, causing erosion and deterioration throughout the room. Every corner was covered with the distinctive markings left by the humidity and the whole structure was in a state of disrepair. The overwhelming smell of dampness added to the eerie atmosphere of the space. Despite its dilapidated state, I was immediately struck by the potential for artistic inspiration that this archive held and the unique beauty that could be found in its decay.
